Term break has officially started. Yay! After 3 grueling Ber Months, I can finally feel that Christmas is in the air. Yes I said grueling but actually my first term wasn't too difficult. It just becomes so since I work full time in my company and sometimes it's challenging to balance work and scholastic life.

Just got my student permit last Friday, yay! The entire process only took 45 minutes. I applied at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Tayuman branch and got there around 3pm. Address is Butel Bldg., Tayuman St., Sta Cruz, Manila. The place is air-conditioned but the microphone sound is muffled - it's ok though, you can still hear them call out your name. =)
Thanks to BDO car financing, I (or rather my boyfriend) was able to drive home just last week my first and very own car. It’s a second hand Suzuki Jimny – perfect for a lady driver like me who lives in Manila, if you consider the size and ground clearance.
Except for a slight computer glitch, my enrollment went smoothly. I had a training in Astoria last August 28 so I wasn't able to take an absence from work to enroll. I made it a point though to be online precisely at eight in the morning in order to reserve my desired slots. I picked BusCom and ApMath for my first term. After several tries, I was already furious because the homepage didn't load due to a problem with the server. I used the hotel's wifi and my officemate's smart LTE connection.
I am writing this hours after almost being lured by FinAsia Global into paying over 4k for a discount card which according to my research is a scam. Earlier this morning, I got a phone call while in the office from a certain Ms. Corpuz. She was talking incessantly about how I was chosen to avail of the VIP Platinum Card that when supposedly used in conjunction with your credit card would entitle you to to a 40% discount in whatever airline and hotel you want to book. What enticed me was the one-time fee of P4495 in exchange for lifetime membership! A thing like this was too good to be true and sadly, it was. Looking back, I spotted several inconsistencies during our 5-minute conversation which I unabashedly and blindly ignored. Silly me. One, I am barely a 6 month credit card holder who isn't exactly the best candidate out of millions of people who own a cc. Two, she knew some of my details like the area where I live (she even joked that we live in the same area and named a street in Manila maybe trying to break the ice or something) but she doesn't even know which bank I am connected to. She kept saying BDO instead of BPI. Third, I repeatedly asked for the name of the company but due to her fast speaking pace, I couldn't understand a word she's saying. Obviously that was on purpose because when she was explaining the benefits of getting the card, her manner of speaking was a-ok.
Good thing that after hanging up the phone, my first impulse was to google the words VIP Platinum + Scam and pronto, several websites appeared confirming that it was indeed fake, phony, BS, or whatever-you-wanna-call-it. Lesson learned - paranoia isn't always a bad thing. Spread the news everyone. Stay on guard. I cannot backtrack and delete your comments anymore. He was someone I didn't pray or wish for. I never assumed our paths would cross. And when it did, it wasn't at all love at first sight. I didn't feel my heart skip a beat or have the slightest blush on my cheek. That day was something I could never call extraordinary.
Little did I know that God would one day work His magic. Summer came and I met him again. He, a graduating student who was taking his last GE subject. I, an incoming sophomore who happened to tag along with her friend in enrolling in a random GE subject. Most people may agree that the most basic financial rule to live by is to never ever spend more than what you earn. It may be enticing to gratify yourself every now and then but not to the point that peso spent equals peso earned. Make an effort to move the needle by limiting your expenses and never going over budget.
So what happens now to this extra money? Forget spending. Seriously.=p Either save the extra cash or invest it. Part III!
>Cafe Breton >Chili's >Ajisen Ramen >Sumo Sam >Uncle Cheffy Comments and resto suggestions are most welcome! I would definitely want to try every food imaginable :) For the South Korea trip I mentioned in my previous post, I was so elated that not only did we manage to get tickets for only 7k/pax, each of us was also given around 3k worth of credits because Air Asia's Manila-Incheon (vice-versa) flight schedules were moved. Thank heavens for stupidly ignoring the available flight schedules when I booked online.
But wait, there's more! Because of the new system, we even got a better flight because initially our departure time was 2AM but is now 7AM. Even the flight back to Manila has a good sched than before considering it takes a few hours to get to Incheon airport from Seoul. The credits are valid for one year from the date of issue by the way. Because of my beagle Hushie's recurrent eye infection, I opted to ask for a second opinion. I googled the nearest veterinary clinic near my home and one Saturday, found my way to Chua Veterinary Clinic located along D. Tuazon, Quezon City. I liked the place. The clinic was air-conditioned and clean albeit the perennial smell of various dogs. I was told they have been in practice for more or less two decades.
Dr. Franz, the other veterinary doctor apart from Dr. Chua herself, took charge of Hushie. He prescribed an eye antibiotic (this time without a steroid) but he believes that the only way for the infection to resolve is removal of the membrane that is inflamed. Although minor, it still calls for surgery where laboratory tests for clearance are to be done prior to anaesthesia and actual excision of a part of Hushie's third eyelid. |
